Anthony Hewitt has made up stories ever since he can remember, and has no intention of stopping. Working as a freelance consultant in substance misuse and the prison system subsidises writing, occasional acting and extensive travelling. When not having to write reports for work, Anthony writes epic fantasy, thoughtful speculative fiction, and short stories inspired by his travels and an eventful life. He graduated with Merit from Bath Spa’s Creative Writing MA in 2015.
Legacy is set centuries after the world order has collapsed into a mess of desperate and terminal wars. Subsequently a stable and peaceful society has developed in Silom, administered by the Census, who hold a rigid monopoly on literacy and technology. Erol is grateful for the opportunity to support the Census in their utopian work, and he progresses well. His father uncovers an ancient container buried on his farm, initiating a chain of events that will lead Erol to question all he believes and values. In this excerpt from the beginning of the novel, Erol’s parents and the local reader are waiting to see what will happen, and who will come.
